You people discust me!!! You think by kickking them out, that will make it go away? YOU are putting a band-aid on the problem, not trying to solve it. From what I see, there is only 1 shelter in Huntington, can't you open more?

I am from Michigan. The comments I am reading here are a far cry from the Mission I knew when I grew up in Huntington. MY church's youth group (the former 20th St. Baptist) use to go there to help with meetings for the men. Needless to say, if it were as bad as things are being described above, the adults in our church would not have allowed us near the place. That being said, the negative comments show an enormous ungrateful attitude and ignorance of cost restrictions at any mission in the country. I sense a "the world owes me a living" attitude which will hold anybody back.

I am only guessing here, but many of the Detroit people mentioned could well be from the families that left WV a generation ago to seek employment in the now defunct auto industry and are now returning "home" hoping to find work in the equally defunct coal industry that was so prosperous during my years in Huntington.

My heart goes out to the lady who is going through some really tough times, but she must realize that bitterness is a real turn-off to employers. Christ is waiting to remove the bitterness and turn her mourning into joy!! I know, it happened to me!!! I am now going through a tough time, but I know who holds my life in His hands. I pray that this lady will let Him lift her up, too.

In addition, if you are having problems with AFNI due to harassment, deception, or failure to validate alleged debts, you should file a complaint with the Illinois Attorney General.

According to an article on ConsumerAffairs.com, "... The office of the Illinois Attorney General currently has an active investigation into Afni, said office spokeswoman Natalie Bauer. She could give no further details but said the office has received "around 900" complaints over the past eight years. ..."

What I would really like to see is Mayor David Felinton do something of substance rather than grandstanding for the limelight. If Mayor David Felinton made a motion to council to increase the medical compensation for breast cancer victims on the city payroll possibly I might be happy with him. However making a public edifice look like a bottle of Pepto Bismol has nothing to do with breast cancer. Alas some mistake symbolic gestures for substantial action and that alone is departure from reality. I have nothing but compassion for those afflicted with cancer and nothing but contempt for cheap politicians who exploit their plight with symbolic gestures that offer no substance. I guess thats why Mayor David Felinton and his fan club does not like me.

To use Saudi Arabia as the blame for gas prices is either ignorant or blatant propaganda. The kernel of truth in this piece is that the Saudis always get a pass on their close friendship with in particular the Bush's who have had close business dealings with not only the Saudis but the bin Laden family, including in GWB's own Texas oil business. (Google Arbusto and Bush). Still, this smacks too much of the same propaganda we are hearing to INCITE MORE MIDDLE EAST INTERVENTION by the U.S., as the neocons and their sycophants would have us do. (Nor did Hillary or Obama shrink from this as Olberman pointed out in Countdown after the "debate"), when precisely the opposite course should be taken.

The blame for high gas prices can be laid at the feet of not OPEC merely, nor of Chinas demand, as local radio talk shows have recently been declaring, but because of a PREEMPTIVE INVERVENTIONIST U.S. WAR POLICY IN THE MIDDLE EAST, which drives volatile and emotionally charged future's trading, and indeed, particularly from Iraq, has limited to supply.

Secondly, is that US oil companies (hardly innocently) have deliberately reduced refinery capacity (which Bush acknowledged publicly), on purpose, to increase oil profits through efficiency. This has created a bottle neck then during supply reductions (e.g. Katrina) which then directly influences prices. Contrary to the propagandists, the oil companies do NOT want to increase refinery compacity, and therefore the government is not to blame for this scenario.

It is true that the state and fed governments are milking consumers dry with very heavy taxation on gas (about 50 cents per gallon!), which is more profit by far than the industry!

And it is troubling that a presidential administration, stacked with oil executives (Bush, Cheney, Rice, etc.) cannot at least give a full explanation, or help solve, the worst inflation in fuel prices, effecting all other consumer goods likewise, while getting a free pass. In fairness, we hear little advice either from the Democratic corner, i.e. Rockefeller.

Ending the present pre-emptive and neocon-based war policy, particularly for a "new middle east", would immediately lead to a drop in oil prices, and thus not only gas prices, but all consumer goods that mark up their freight which is driving inflation on food in particular. Strangely, we hear little of this, if you read closely, in any of the 3 candidates who call for "change". Meanwhile, the government should reduce its gas taxes, beginning with the State.

Hate crime should not be tolerable. I do not believe in hate crime. How would these people like it if their family members were tortured or even murdered because someone did not like them? Just remember that was comes around must go around. We need to learn how to get along. We have enough hate from other countries we do not need to hate our own. God says that we need to love each other.

I have to say that Stephanie is a moron. If you remove pcs from grade schools, Stephanie, how do you think kids are going to know to use them in middle school? high school? You have no clue as to what you're talking about! If we spend our time and money diligently preparing our kids for a future with technology, they will have a better chance landing a job in the technology field. The money spent on education is in no way related to the number of technology jobs in our pathetic state...it's a direct relationship between tax breaks for these companies, strength of our state's infrastructure, and oh yes, potential employee base (the future hiring pool)!

I apologize if I've offended anyone other than Stephanie.
I do not recall taking this poll, but when I tried it said I had already taken the "blasted poll." ANYHOW, my brother is running for Sheriff. His name is Greg Lawson, not Jim Lawson. That is so ironic as our father's name was James, called Jim, Jimmy, Jimbo. He died in a fire when we were all little children. It was so surprising to see his name there instead of my brothers. Maybe it is a sign that he is watching over my brother through all of this sign stealing, his website hacking, etc. that is occuring. This is a very interesting website. I am a social worker, so love the insight. If my brother, Greg Lawson, is able to get his website working again, if interested, go to GregLawsonforSheriff.com .Good luck to all, but of course I want my brother to win.

    Ma'am,

Your statment above that "The orientation of the victim is irrelevant to his right to live" is absolutely correct. It is also true, however, that the victim's sexual behavior has no bearing on the guilt of the perpetrators. Are you insinuating that they committed any less of a crime if they killed this man over a debt? Are you insinuating that if they had killed him to avenge a heterosexual grudge, that they should recieve less of a punishment? "hate crimes" are nothing more than a liberal attempt to appease traditionally democrat-voting blocks (gays and minorities) with the very thing they claim to oppose: selective justice. I do not claim to have a solution to rid the world of hate or intolerance, but I can tell you that when it comes to discrimination, two wrongs do NOT make a right.

I live in Asheville NC, a place with exponential growth (almost too much). Asheville is very inclusive and tolerant of ALL peoples. I love how, when I come home to the tri state for a visit with my girlfriend (lesbians), we get constant stares. Its funny to us, living currently in such an open area here in NC that people are still like this. We of course, as lesbians, know intollerance is everywhere. I love my hometown, but I would never want to live there again unless it grew up. Maybe this is why there are so many drug dealers moving in from Detroit, and so many youths moving out to other more lucrative cities/states. Its a shame too. Being in the medical field myself, and my partner in computer IT, we'd have plenty of money to bring back to the tri state, if it grew up a little

Making a public structure look like a bottle of Pepto Bismol does nothing to help breast cancer victims.

I would not hesitate to support the city of Huntington West Virginia to increase medical benifits to city employees who actually have breast cancer.

I am sick and tired of symbolic gestures from Huntington government, and want to see actions of substance rather than political grandstanding from the alleged leader Felinton.
