"As I watched Oprah introduce Senator Obama in Iowa, the two-by-four that hit me on the head wasn't: Oprah is for Obama. It was: Oprah is against the war. Maybe, just maybe, Oprah's audience will take from this the message that their own opposition to the war isn't a betrayal of the troops, as the Republicans claim." ~ Marty Kaplan

Pullman Square Restaurants

I understand that Barb Woods is going to open up an new restaurant at Pullman Square called Moes Southwestern Grill. I ate at Moes Southwestern Grill before it was closed down by the management at Pullman Square on a previous occasion. I was not impressed with the food at Moes Southwestern Grill and I am severely disappointed in mall management that they are ollowing this outfit to return to Pullman sqaure.

The Food at Max and Erma's at Pullman Square is vastly better than anything Moe's Southwestern grille can put on the table. I thought Pulman Square was supposed to attract quality establishments? The management at Pullman Square can do better and I encourage them to do so.

Terms of Service

Message board posting policy:

Below is a copy of our message board posting policy and shall be applicable to all message boards on the sheck network.

Usage of the forums on our network is a privilege granted at sufferance by the board owner and is not a right. Most people will never run afoul of the forum rules if they practice common courtesy.

1. Posting Policy for Message Board Forums

a.	Members are expected to conform to all applicable laws in the use of this forum. You do consent and agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this bulletin board to post any material, which is knowingly false, and or defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, or otherwise violative of any law. Any user who feels that a posted message is objectionable is encouraged to contact the moderators immediately by email or private message. We have the ability to remove objectionable messages and we will make every effort to do so, within a reasonable time frame, if we determine that removal is necessary. This is a manual process, however, so please realize that we may not be able to remove or edit particular messages immediately. Use of this service means you recognize that we implement a reasonable standard of care, and due diligence, to resolve infractions, and protect victims expeditiously.

b.	Bigoted statements are not permissible as they violate law in some jurisdictions and shall be deleted.

c.	b. No member should post more than 10 items in a 24-hour period unless it is an urgent matter. We need to keep the volume of postings to a reasonable level while still providing for a diversity of authors.

d.	The staff moderators will delete Abusive, vulgar, inflammatory, intimidating, or obscene postings. A private warning to the posting member will be sent when this is practical. We try to keep the language fairly clean and civil here on this network. The family members of our members read this forum, and therefore a minor degree of decorum and maturity is requested of members. Staff moderators may delete a member’s account if the abusive condition warrants it.

e. ALL postings containing a vulgar word beginning with "F" shall be deleted because it violates the rules of decorum for public forums. On some areas of the net this is allowed. This is not one of them. The hosting provider has established additional rules that may be applicable. There is a filter that removes vulgar language from the text of this forum to keep the text to some degree clean.

f.	Please note that trade, commercial, or personal advertisements, chain letters, pyramid schemes, and solicitations are NOT permitted in any capacity. This is deemed to be Spam. The test to determine if it is spam is determined by the intent to link to a commercial site that has the capacity to do online commerce or otherwise incite a transaction.

g.	It is permissible to post the addresses and contact information for non-commercial social institutions. We are referring to Churches, schools, government entities, Etc. Under no circumstances is it permissible to post the address and or phone number of any private individual without that person’s expressed permission. This would endanger the individual’s privacy and potential safety. It is a mean world out there, and we desire that our forum be a safe place for our members. The posting shall be deleted, and or member violating this rule to victimize another member shall be booted out of the group at the victims or moderator’s option.

h.	Hate speech, racial slurs, threats, or defamatory conduct against any minority group as defined by the United States Courts shall be cause for termination of membership. Most importantly, personal insults and comments will not be tolerated. We have a great group of people and it is going to stay that way. Our goal is to keep the tone civil and the forum fun. If you have a beef about how the forum is run, please take it up with Moderators in e-mail before posting in the forum. We may just agree with you. Flame postings will not be tolerated. Even if you think that "they flamed me first" you can't flame back. You can make a negative comment on someone's ideas, but not make a personal attack on the person holding that idea. If you feel insulted by something, tell a moderator, not everyone on the board. Simply put, Moderator Staff will not allow this forum to degenerate as others have, having a flame and bashing free environment to enjoy our camaraderie,

i.	Religion is an intensely personal matter, and you have the right to define yourself in that capacity. For instance, you have a right to say, I am a Christian, or I am Jewish, or I am Pagan, Wiccan, or any other faith. You do not have a right to use your particular brand of faith to degrade, intimidate, or coerce other members of the forum. Willful attempts to convert other members of the forum to your particular belief shall result in the member being directed to an appropriate forum established for that purpose. You are permitted to define your faith, but not to use it as a means of intimidation.

j.	You agree not to post any copyrighted material unless you own the copyright.

k.	j. Threats of illegal conduct or abusive behavior against another forum member shall result in immediate membership termination. Flame Postings" that are intended to harass, intimidate, or make an ad hominem or personal attack on an individual or group are grounds for summary removal from the forum. You are free to speak out against a person’s position on issues, but to do so without an ad hominem attack on the person’s integrity or intelligence. This is not the intent of the management to regulate free speech, but rather to uphold a standard of maturity that is conducive to civil debate and discourse among mature persons.

l.	If we are aware of SPAMMERS coming in from other ISP's Moderator Staff shall deny admission if the prior misconduct is publicly known or a reasonable person would suspect so..

m.	Considering the real-time nature of this message board, it is impossible for us to confirm the validity of information posted. We do not vouch for or warrant the accuracy, completeness or usefulness of any message, and are not responsible for the contents of any message. The messages express the views of the author of the message, not necessarily the views of this forum owner, or any entity associated with this Forum. Although this Forum/Bulletin Board is not responsible for the content of any of these messages, we reserve the right to delete any message for cause mandated by this posting policy or the terms of service. Sheck Technologies has provided this forum and we desire to respect the rules and terms given to us by the hosting provider.

n.	You remain solely responsible for the content of your messages, and you agree by your use of this service to indemnify and hold harmless the forum owner(s) and moderator staff and their agents with respect to any claim based upon transmission of your message(s) and otr the messages of others.

o.	These rules may need to be modified from time to time. It is hoped we never need to use these rules. These rules are courtesy of the hosting provider and are in addition and compounded by rules made by the forum owners.

p.	In the event of a legal dispute arising from the contents of this forum, jurisdiction shall be bound to the courts of Kanawha County West Virginia.

What are your needs?

Isn't it time we all started to think for ourselves instead of listening to our party? The president was elected because the Christians in our country believed he was a Christian, voters believed religious leaders when they promoted George W. in and around the church. Voters voted for him strictly based on their beliefs! Turns out, you can't believe a word that comes out of George or the whitehouse. Let's not vote based on our beliefs! We all need to cast our votes based on needs. Think about what you need, what your family and neighbors need and what this country needs. Our most important immediate need right now is more informed, thinking registered voters.

Registration Instructions

It is my understanding that some have had trouble logging in and registering for accounts. THis little tutorial is intended to show you how to register for an account and is intended for newbies.

1. Go to http://www.sheck.com/forums/profile.php?mode=register&agreed=true

2. Select your desired user name and enter your email address.

You must enter a valid email address where you can get mail. The message board software will automate an email to you to confirm the signup i valid, so the email address must be good to confirm your account. This is regretably needed to keep spammers off the board.

3. Enter your desired password.

4. Re Type your password as a confirmation that there are no misspellings. Passwords are case sensitive. It is a good idea for passwords to include a combination of letters and numbers. Something easy for you to remember but hard for someone else to guess.

5. at the bottom of the registration page there is a save button to save your signup registration form. Push that button once you have filled out the four items above.

This pushing of the button will result in the generation of an e mail to your email address.

6, Wait a few minutes for the mail to arrive.

7. When the email arrives open it.

8. There is a link inside the email pointing to the message board. You need to click on that link and this clicking on the link is exactly what activates your account.

9. Once you have clicked on the link in the confirmation email. You will see a page saying your account is now active.

10. Use the user name and password to log in and post as you please.

11. if in the event you forget your password. There is a password recovery link after the first failed login.

12. You can amend or add to your user profile page at later dates.

RE: Is Debt Alone a Threat?

Historian Murray Rothbard wrote of the Bank of US in his book Panic of 1819:

-----------------------------------------------------

Beginning in the summer of 1818, the Bank precipitated the Panic of 1819 by a series of deflationary moves. The branches of the Bank were ordered to call on the state banks to redeem heavy balances and notes held by the Bank. ...The severe monetary contraction, lasting through 1820, led to a wave of bankruptcies throughout the country". Mr. Rothbard noted a speech in the Congress by Senator Ninian Edwards concerning a bill proposed in the Congress for the relief of debtors:

"The debtors, like the rest of the country, had been infatuated by the short-lived, "artificial and fictitious prosperity." They thought that the prosperity would be permanent. Lured by the cheap money of the banks, people were tempted to engage in a "multitude of the wildest projects and most visionary speculations," as in the case of the Mississippi and South Sea bubbles of previous centuries."

…The Bank of the United States foreclosed more than fifty thousand acres of farmland in Ohio and Kentucky alone.

----------------------------------------------------

The "Cosmopolitan Financiers" have been doing this for millenia, filching wealth out of wherever and whatever they please. Nothing new here…

Banks 'set to call in a swathe of loans'

By Ambrose Evans-Pritchard

Last Updated: 7:25am BST 26/06/2007

The United States faces a severe credit crunch as mounting losses on risky forms of debt catch up with the banks and force them to curb lending and call in existing loans, according to a report by Lombard Street Research.

The group said the fast-moving crisis at two Bear Stearns hedge funds had exposed the underlying rot in the US sub-prime mortgage market, and the vast nexus of collateralised debt obligations known as CDOs.

"Excess liquidity in the global system will be slashed," it said. "Banks' capital is about to be decimated, which will require calling in a swathe of loans. This is going to aggravate the US hard landing."

Charles Dumas, the group's global strategist, said the failed auction of assets seized from one of the Bear Stearns funds by Merrill Lynch had revealed the dark secret of the CDO debt market. The sale had to be called off after buyers took just $200m of the $850m mix.

"The banks were not prepared to bid over 85pc of face value for CDOs rated "A" or better," he said.

"God knows how low the price would have dropped if they had kept on going. We hear buyers were lobbing bids at just 30pc.

"We don't know what the value of this debt is because the investment banks shut down the market in a cover-up so that nobody would know. There is $750bn of dubious paper out there in the form of CDOs held by banks that have a total capitalisation of $850bn."

advertisement

US property writer Paul Muolo described the Bearn Stearns crisis as the “subprime Chernobyl”, saying the bank had created a “cone of silence”.

Abandoned by fellow banks, Bear Stearns has now put up $3.2bn of its own money to rescue one of the funds, a quarter of its capital.

This is the biggest bail-out since the Long-Term Capital Management crisis in 1998, which Bear Stearns refused to join at the time. Bear Stearns is now alone, a case of rough justice being served.

Lombard Street’s warning comes as fresh data from the US National Association of Realtors shows that the glut of unsold homes reached a record of 8.9 months supply in May. Sales of existing homes slid to an annual rate of 5.99m.

The median price fell for the 10th month in a row to $223,700, down almost 14pc from its peak in April 2006. This is the steepest drop since the 1930s.

The Mortgage Lender Implode-Meter that tracks the US housing markets claims that 86 major lenders have gone bankrupt or shut their doors since the crash began.

The latest are Aegis Lending, Oak Street Mortgage and The Mortgage Warehouse.

“There isn’t a recovery about to happen,” said Ara Hovanian, head of the building group Hovanian Enterprise.

Nouriel Roubini, economics professor at New York University, said there were now concerns about “systemic risk fall-out” from the Bear Stearns debacle as investors look more closely at the real value of CDOs.

“These highly illiquid securities have been priced so far on unrealistic and distorted credit ratings as the ratings industry has been complicit,” he said.

“They have not been rerated in a way that is consistent with rising subprime default rates. “That is why Wall Street is in a panic. “Losses will be massive once these assets are correctly priced to market.”

Lombard Street said the Bear Stearns fiasco was the tip of the iceberg. The greatest risk lies in the “toxic tranches” of lower grade securities held by the banks.

Much-trumpeted claims that banks had shifted off the riskiest credit exposure on to the asset markets was “largely a fiction”, said Mr Dumas

. The worst of the US property crisis has yet to hit since there is an overhang of $2,000bn of mortgages with adjustable rates which have yet to be reset. Many borrowers could see payments jump by half, or even double.

At the same time, a spike in 10-year US bond yields by 0.65 percentage points over the last six weeks has drastically repriced the cost of fixed mortgages, knocking away a key prop for the US housing market.

“With defaults at their highest in the 37 years that records have been kept, it could be a long hot summer,” said Mr Dumas.

Cheney FlipFlop

Contra Costa Times

Waxman joins fight to get Cheney documents

Vice president asserts he is not an entity of the executive branch, refuses to comply with order to protect classified material

By William Douglas

MCCLATCHY WASHINGTON BUREAU

Article Launched: 06/22/2007 03:07:43 AM PDT

WASHINGTON -- Vice President Dick Cheney and congressional Democrats are sparring over the vice president's refusal to comply with a 2003 presidential executive order that requires all agencies and the executive branch to protect classified material.

The skirmish is the latest in a long battle between Congress and the Bush White House -- particularly Cheney's office -- over the administration's campaign to expand the powers of the executive branch and increase the amount of information labeled as classified.

In a letter to Cheney on Thursday, House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Henry Waxman, D-Los Angeles, questioned "both the legality and wisdom" of the vice president's claiming an exemption from the order, noting recent controversies involving members of Cheney's staff and classified information.

Former Cheney Chief of Staff Lewis "Scooter" Libby was convicted in March of perjury and obstruction of justice in connection with a federal investigation into the identification, in a leak to the media, of CIA undercover operative Valerie Plame.

In May 2006, Leandro Aragoncillo, an aide in the vice president's office, admitted in federal court that he stole classified U.S. intelligence information and passed it on to officials plotting a coup in the Philippines.

"This record does not inspire confidence in how your office handles the nation's most sensitive security information," Waxman wrote. "Indeed, it would appear particularly irresponsible to give an office with your history of security breaches an exemption from the safeguards that apply to all other executive branch officials."

Cheney's office says it's exempt from Bush's executive order because it's not an entity within the executive branch. The order, issued in March 2003, directed all agencies and executive branch offices to report on their classified and non-classified files to the National Archives and Records Administration.

Cheney says his office is "unique" because it has dual responsibilities in the executive branch and legislative branches. In addition to serving as vice president, Cheney is president of the U.S. Senate.

"I would say that we are confident that we are conducting the office properly and under law," said Megan McGinn, a Cheney spokeswoman.

National Archives officials and Waxman disagree.

They say Cheney and his staff fall under the executive order because of their executive branch business. The Archive's Information Security Oversight Office has been trying to get Cheney to comply with the order since it was denied access to the vice president's office for a routine inspection in 2004.

"According to a letter that the National Archives sent to your staff in June 2006, you asserted that the Office of the Vice President is not an 'entity within the executive branch,' and hence is not subject to presidential executive orders," Waxman wrote. "To my knowledge, this was the first time in the nearly 30-year history of the Information Security Oversight Office that a request for access to conduct a security inspection was denied by a White House office."

Archives officials fired off letters to Cheney's office in June and August 2006 seeking compliance with Bush's order, to no avail. In January, they wrote Attorney General Alberto Gonzales in hopes of getting Cheney to comply. Gonzales has not responded to the letter, according to Waxman's office. Justice Department spokesman Dean Boyd told McClatchy that the matter is under review.

There seems to be more people who are interested in Blogging in West Virginia. I understand that Huntington has its fair share of bloggers, I would like to meet some of them. On my main blog I use the serendipity blog software. It is good stuff.

If city hall had a brain.. they would give the police department a blog to post notices of missing children and stolen merchandise and crime alerts. There I go fantasizing that city hall has a brain.

And now here comes the liberal supreme court deciding that the Decider does have the authority to regulate heat-trapping gases in auto emissions.

Of course, he doesn't have to do anything, but with this decision the legal action to follow when he doesn't can't do anything but hurt those he represents ~ the wealthy.

So I figure he will soon announce he has been for EPA oversight all along then go into action.

But what will he do?

Declare it a terrorist plot?

Call in Big Oil to take care of it?

Outsource it to India? China?

Marshall University Computer Services

Marshall University has been listed by a national copyright enforcement group as one of the 25 worst Univerities in the country when it comes to illegal music downloads. Copyright violations imply theft of intellectual property and this is NOT a reputation that a progressive educational institution desires to have. It is not good for Marshall and it is not good for West Virginia. The liberal side of my nature says college kids will be kids, even if they are young adults as defined by law.

However the law is none the less the law and must be obeyed.

However the fiscal conservative side of my nature understands that the state of West Virginia has invested millions of dollars for a University computer network that has all too much of its digital resources abused by students for copyright piracy.

This impacts the credibility of the University.

I am displeased by the overt waste of money. I can think of better uses for the misappropriated bandwidth. This current situation does nothing to advance the reputation of the state of West Virginia or education. It is a negligent waste of state money that this situation has not been previously abated. Tax money should not be used subsidizing unauthorized digital music distributions by students.

If the Marshall University digital network is going to be used for music distribution, then it needs to be used to put WMUL online in streaming format. That would be legitimate.

Steve Hensley, MU dean of student affairs, told The Parthenon that prevention of downloading of illegal music is impossible “to restrict access to data files.” ,even though the federal law (DMCA) requires the University to regulate its own network to abate copyright piracy.

The law is controversial but the law must be obeyed.

Apparently Dr. Hensley does not understand that all MP3 music files can be rapidly removed from the student server in ten minutes by any competent server administrator. It's NOT impossible as he wrongly alleges. This needs to be done for the sake of the University’s reputation.

The University already prohibited copyright violations on its network. The University computer system administrators were merely negligent to enforce the rules. And therein lies the profound problem. This has NOTHING to do with the publicity from the We Are Marshall movie.

This situation is not without precedent. A portion of the states computer network at the state capitol was misused and abused about two years ago by state employees who were using state machines to download and burn pirated DVD's. As I understand it, the Governor of West Virginia promptly fired the administrators of that network at that time, and he was correct to do so.

RE: REAL ID

Lisa Sylvester reported 9 February 2007:

Quote:

SYLVESTER: What they say -- what opponents say is what they are afraid is they don't want to see a national ID. In fact, Sensenbrenner is against a national ID as well, and his opponents say -- believe that this program is essentially one step away, that it would create a national database -- it would not create a national database. But they are concerned that it would, and that would essentially -- it would open up the door, if you -- so to speak, and would allow people access to this information, essentially keeping and tracking and monitoring Americans in this country.

Congressman James Sensenbrenner noted 7 February 2007:

Quote:

REP. JAMES SENSENBRENNER, (R) WISCONSIN: Well, they say it's a national driver's license and it's not. The Real ID Act, Lou, actually prevents a national ID card, because if we didn't use state driver's licenses to prove our identity, then there would be pressure on the federal government to have all of us carry a national ID, just like they do in continental Europe. That would be a bad move. And I've been strongly opposed to having a national ID card for a whole number of reasons.

Senator Charles Schumer noted 31 January 2007:

Quote:

SEN. CHUCK SCHUMER (D), NEW YORK: We propose every American, citizen, legal immigrant gets a non-forgeable employment card, a national employment card. It has a little chit in there that you can't forge that matches the retina of your eye. Every employer -- every employer would have to swipe the card through a little machine like a credit card machine, when someone applied for a job who would have their picture on it, of course.

Reported 26 January 26 2007:

Quote:

ROSEMARY JENKS, NUMBERSUSA: There really is no opt out with federal law. If they decide not to comply, then the result is that the people who get driver's licenses from that state will not be permitted to use their licenses for certain purposes like getting on an airplane.

PILGRIM: The new rules would say, unless a person had a driver's license issued with the new standard, a person could not board a plane, enter a federal building or enter a nuclear facility.

If this isn't a national ID card, I don't know what would be. Granted, we do need a secure system in this country to weed out those who do not belong here, but the federal government has no business entering the driver license field. Years ago, driving an automobile on the highways was considered -- and recognized by legal authorities -- to be a right, and that those who operated a motor vehicle on the roadways for profit had to be licensed by the State for this purpose. Gradually, the natural person and the artificial person were melded together into the law, and now the State won't recognize that there is a distinct difference between the two. The federal government has seized upon this abortion, and acted upon it to the detriment of the inhabitants of the States, and it has come to this.

Quote:

The new rules would say, unless a person had a driver's license issued with the new standard, a person could not board a plane

I really don't believe that a person boarding a plane has any intention of driving the plane, or even driving a car around in the plane. So, what would a driver license have to do with whether or not a person can ride in a plane?

RE: REAL ID

CNN -- LOU DOBBS TONIGHT -- Aired February 26, 2007 - 18:00 ET

Many states are still unhappy over mandatory federal standards for issuing driver's licenses. The Department of Homeland Security is expected to issue new guidelines this week, and states have just over a year to put them in place.

Now, Jeanne Meserve tells us why states are putting up resistance to the law.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I definitely don't think this is going to work.

JEANNE MESERVE, CNN HOMELAND SECURITY CORRESPONDENT (voice over): But it does. The prankster goes into the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles and comes out with a valid driver's license, silly picture and all.

From a security perspective, it is not a laughing matter. After 9/11, Congress mandated tough new federal standards for driver's licenses called Real ID. States are supposed to implement them in little more than a year.

Every one of the 245 million license holders in the United States will have to reapply in person with documents that prove they are citizens or legal residents. The states predict it will swamp motor vehicle offices, creating long waits. Currently, each state issues licenses following their own security standards and with their own features.

KAREN JOHNSON, ARIZONA STATE SENATE: They have no business in our state's business. And that's what they're doing.

MESERVE: Arizona state senator Karen Johnson is sponsoring legislation saying her state will not comply. She says Real ID would invade privacy by creating a large national database of driver information.

JOHNSON: I mean, Homeland Security is the one that's going to be running this database? Give me a break.

MESERVE: Arizona is one of 24 states that has passed or proposed legislation opposing Real ID. The big complaint, the cost -- an estimated $11 billion over five years. The biggest expense is likely to be a requirement that states verify the authenticity of identity documents used to get a license.

DAVID QUAM, NATIONAL GOVERNORS ASSOCIATION: It's verification that not even the federal government can complete for its own employees.

MESERVE: Rody Marshall just got his license renewed in Phoenix in 20 minutes. If Real ID lengthens his wait, it's fine with him.

RODY MARSHALL, PHOENIX RESIDENT: I don't think everybody should just automatically get a driver's license. If it takes -- if it takes a day of your time, that's what it takes.

MESERVE: Homeland Security is taking an even harder line.

MICHAEL CHERTOFF, HOMELAND SECURITY SECRETARY: If we don't get it done now, someone is going to be sitting around in three or four years explaining to the next 9/11 Commission why we didn't do it.

MESERVE: Because the next person who tries to get a driver's license may want to do harm to the country, not just get a laugh.

Jeanne Meserve, CNN, Phoenix.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

MESERVE: As you mentioned, Kitty, the Department of Homeland security is expected to issue long-awaited regulations perhaps this week that will lay out the specifics of what states have to do to comply with Real ID. Some are guessing that will fuel the uproar rather than dampen it -- Kitty.

PILGRIM: Jeanne, what are the consequences to the states of not complying with this law?

MESERVE: Well, what the law says, if you do not comply, then your licenses can't be used as federal IDs. That means you can't use them to get into federal buildings, you can't use them to board airplanes. So consequence for the citizens.

PILGRIM: Yes. It seems like it.

Thanks very much.

I do deeply regret to inform the readers of this board that our longtime friend Hedgwitch has passed into eternity on Jan 30, 2007 grom a heart attack. He was retired from the US Army and a Sheriffs Deputy. His real name was William Fulks of Mebane N.C. We shall all miss him.

WASHINGTON (Feb. 14) - Challenged on the accuracy of U.S. intelligence, President Bush said Wednesday there is no doubt the Iranian government is providing armor-piercing weapons to kill American soldiers in Iraq . But he backed away from claims the top echelon of Iran 's government was responsible.

Shoot, we have always known Iran has interest in Iraq but you can't help but be skeptical if Bush is saying it.

Quiz:

Which one is most accurate?

1- WMD

2- Iraq/al Quada connection

3- Nigeria uranium

4- Iranian goverment providing weapons

Well, it has to be No. 4 of course lol

RE: Who will be the next Saddam?

It just makes you wonder because all you can do is hope (Bush needs to start a Hope-based Initiative) You can assume hopefully that what they do is the best thing to do for the country or its the only way to get the job done..and they do it right.

Here's something that seems a little unusual to me but may have been going on since President Eisenhower's warning and may well be the only way to do it in our system.

Booze Allan Hamilton Inc., does $3.7 billion in defense and intelligent consulting. Pres. Bush's selection for his new spy chief is a retired admiral who makes $2 million a year and has worked for Booze for 10 years as a consultant to some of the same senior military and intelligent officials he will supervise if the Senate confirms him.

So, I guess I can just hope that when it comes to the military its different than everything else because that's about defending the country..unlike oil, drugs, banking, etc.

I'll never forget Rep. Billy Tauzin, the (supposedly) champion of the people against the evil drug industry.

WASHINGTON — Retiring Rep. Billy Tauzin, R-La., who stepped down earlier this year as chairman of the House committee that regulates the pharmaceutical industry, will become the new president and CEO of the drug industry's top lobbying group.
